A Good Traveler

Today’s writing prompt was ‘a good traveler.’ I had no idea what to write for this prompt because I don’t travel much. Well, not at all, actually! But then a friend posted something on Facebook about  roads traveled and that was my ah-ha moment for my daily prompt.

We all know the saying ‘life is a highway.’ We are presented with left turns and right turns on a daily basis. Sometimes, those turns are simple choices like romaine or iceberg. Other times, the choices are much more intricate, such as deciding if you want to have another child.

We all have a past that we see in our rearview mirror. Most of us have some things we regret, small and large, we are human after all. Our past is a record of our lessons learned, mistakes made and accomplishments achieved. Through all of these lessons and accomplishments, we have become the people we are today.

In our futures, we will be faced with many more simple and intricate challenges. Though they will not dwell in the past, a good traveler will use the teachings from their past to help them determine how to handle those challenges. A good traveler will continue to follow life’s highway, navigating the twists and turns skillfully. He may not always make the right choices, he might hit a bump or two along the way. But, as long as he is looking forward and not living in the past, he will reach his destination.

That last sentence is really good. Look forward and don’t live in the past. I really needed to hear that today. Thank you friend!
